Sewing Thread Consumption for Jute Bag

Jute count:
The yarn number or count in the pound per spindle system is the weight in pounds of 14400 yards of yarns is called Jute count.
Sewing Thread Consumption for Jute Bag
There are different types of stitch in Jute bag. They are:

  • Hemming stitch
  • Herakle stitch
  • Over head stitch
  • Safety sewing
  • Hand sewing
Count of sewing thread
Thread count and ply depends on the types and natures of stitches which are given below:

Hemming stitch
  • For Hessian fabric – Single thread of 9 lbs
  • For Sacking fabric – Single yarn of 11 lbs
Herakle stitch
  • For Hessian fabric – 3 ply thread of 8 lbs
  • For Sacking fabric – 3 ply thread of 8 lbs
Over head stitch
  • For Hessian fabric - 3 ply thread of 8 lbs
  • For Sacking fabric – 3 ply thread of 11 lbs
Safety sewing
  • For Hessian fabric – 2 ply thread of 8 lbs
  • For sacking fabric – 2 ply yarn of 9 lbs
Sewing Factor
There are different types of sewing factor depending upon different stitches and nature of fabric. They are given below:

Calculations:

Problem-1:

A Sacking bag size is 32” X 18”, Calculate the sewing thread length and weight of Side and bottom Herakle and mouth Hemmed

Solution:

Herakle thread length of sacking bag of 32” X 18” is
= (Bag length + Bag width) X Sewing factor X No. of sewing thread ply
= (32 + 18) X 8 X 3 ply (Thread of 8 lbs)
= 1200 inchs
= 1200/36 yds
= 33.33 yds (ANS).

Sewing thread weight = Sewing thread length (lbs) X (thread count/14400)
= 33.33 X 8/14400
= 0.0185 lbs
= 0.296 oz (ANS).

Problem-2:

Calculate the total amount of sewing thread (in oz) of a Bewtil Sacking bag of 44 X 26.5 sizes.

Solution:

We do herakle stitch in lengthwise (two sides) and hemming stitch in mouth

Herakle thread length = Bag length X 2 (two sides) X Sewing factor X No. of ply of sewing thread
= 44 X 2 X 8 X 3 (thread of 8 lbs)
= 2112 inchs
= 58.67 yds

Herakle thread weight = Sewing thread length (yds) X thread count/14400
= 58.67 X 8/14400
= 0.0326 lbs
= 0.52 oz (1 lb = 16 oz)

Hemming thread length = Mouth length X 2 (two sides) X Sewing factor X No. of ply
= 26.5 X 2 X 5.33 X 1
= 282.49 inchs
= 7.85 yds

Hemming thread weight = Sewing thread length (yds) X Thread count/14400
= 7.85 X 11/14400
= 0.006 lbs
= 0.096 oz

Total wt. of sewing thread = Herakle thread weight + Hemming thread weight
= 0.52 + 0.096
= 0.616 oz

So, for a Betwil Sacking bag of 44X 26.5 sizes, we need total 0.616 oz sewing thread. (ANS).
