Method of Garments Costing for
Knitted Hoodie Sweat Shirt (Factory Costing)
Hoodie sweat shirt is one of the most common
manufacturing item in the apparel industry. Normally, Hoodie sweat shirt is
made from fleece fabric. It has higher GSM (Gram per square) comparable to the
other’s knitted item and the price is also higher than other’s item. As we
know, the fabric cost takes almost 50 % to 70% of total manufacturing cost of
the garment.
Today we will see, calculation process for a hoodie sweatshirt
with examples. By using cad marker, we can easily calculate the fabric
consumption of an order. But as a garment Merchandiser, you should know the way
to process of fabric consumption for knitted sweat shirt. For better
understanding and calculation process, follow the below formula and
example;
We already know the basic formula of fabric consumption. As a
reminder, find the below formula of fabric consumption;
Formula - 01: In centimeter
(Body Length + Sleeve Length + Seam Allowance) x (½ Chest + Seam
Allowance) x 2 x GSM / 10,000 / 1000 + 10% (Wastage and extra cutting) x Doz. +
TF (Trim Fabric)
Formula - 02: In Inch
(Body Length + Sleeve Length + Seam Allowance) x (½ Chest + Seam
Allowance) x 2 x GSM / 1550 /1000 + 10% (Wastage and extra cutting) x Doz. + TF
(Trim Fabric)
To measure the fabric consumption of Hoodie sweat shirt, we will
calculate fabric consumption by using one of the above formulas. For
calculating fabric consumption of a garment, as first you need to find out
below information;

measurement uses in CM (Centimeter)
Suppose, the knitted fleece sweatshirt has been following
information. Now we will estimate the fabric consumption based on below
information measurement;
Item: Knitted fleece fabric, garment components are front, back,
hoodie and long sleeves. Fabric GSM (Gram per square) is 260.

= (39.6 + 19.6) x 10 x 2 x 340 / 10,000 / 1000 + 10% x 12
= 0.531 kg / Doz.

= 22 x 32 x 2 x 260 / 10,000 / 1000 + 10% x 12
= 0.483 kg / Doz.
Note: We calculated pocket fabric consumption based shell fabric. If
you want to use single jersey inside pocket, then you have to calculate the
fabric consumption for single jersey. The formula is same as like example, you
need to change GSM and other information as per requirement.
So, as per above consumption of this style, total fabric
consumption for hoodie sweatshirt is;
Body fabric consumption + Hood fabric consumption + RIB fabric
consumption + Pocket fabric consumption
= 3.460 + 0.6431 + 0.531 + 0.483 kg / Doz.
= 5.1171 kg / Doz.
We need total 5.1171 kg per Doz. to complete garment of Hoodie sweat
shirt.

= 3.75 + 0.4851 + 0.619 + 0.3461 kg / Doz.
= 5.2 kg / Doz.
We need total 5.2 kg per Doz. to complete garment of Hoodie
sweat shirt.
